Why we conduct assessments

If you’re interested in a place for your child at our early intervention and sessional services we invite you to come in for an informal assessment at our Centre in North London.

This allows you to meet us in person, see what we do and ask any questions. By assessing your child’s abilities and needs, we can see whether we can offer the right support and development opportunities to help them achieve their potential.

How to book an assessment

Once you’ve completed the online Request an Assessment form, we’ll contact you to arrange a suitable date.

If you’re interested in the Mollii suit please use our Request for Mollii Assessment form.

When and where will the assessment take place?

We conduct assessments at our Centre once or twice a week during term time. We’ll do our best to offer you an appointment within three weeks of your initial enquiry.

Who does the assessment and how long does it take?

One of our qualified Conductors leads the assessment. Please allow up to one hour for your visit.

Who can come to the assessment?

We request that only parents or carers come with the child. If you do have to bring another child (e.g. a sibling) with you please bring another adult to lend a hand with them. If you’d like a healthcare professional to come, please let us know in advance.

What should I bring?

Please bring with you:

  • any relevant documentation, e.g. recent educational and/or medical reports
  • any equipment or aids your child uses on a daily basis.

What happens during the assessment?

Using a Conductive Education approach, the assessor will interact and play with your child so that they can:

  • observe their mobility, fine and gross motor skills
  • see what they can do by themselves and what they need help with.

You’ll be fully involved throughout the process and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

How soon will my child be able to start sessions?

We’ll let you know within two weeks of the assessment whether we can offer a place to meet your child’s needs.

How much does the assessment cost?

We charge £30 for an assessment for our early intervention and sessional services. Please contact our Centre Administrator for payment details, tel 020 8444 7242 or email info@cplondon.org.uk
