Our curriculum for our children aged 5-11 focuses on developing the key skills they need for everyday living and lifelong learning: communication, thinking and problem-solving, independence, physical development and self-care.
We teach the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 and 2 subjects of Maths, English, Science and Computing through our Learning for Living active curriculum, with integrated Conductive Education or physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration, Rebound therapy and music therapy.
We use a Total Communication approach to enable each child to have an effective means of communication.
We also encourage the children to take part in structured play and activities that they initiate, which helps foster their social development and independence. The curriculum also gives ample opportunities for each child to be as physically active as possible.
Our full-time onsite therapy provision is one of many factors that make Woodstar School so extraordinary. It means that our pupils can participate in all school activities with the minimum of disruption, rather than spending time travelling to and from medical and therapy appointments.
Meeting your child’s needs
Each child who comes to Woodstar School has individual abilities and challenges. Therefore, we adapt our approach to meet individual children’s needs so that they can enjoy and get the most out of the lessons and other activities.
We set targets for each child and monitor their progress every week, reporting back to their parents.
We are committed to offering our pupils the best opportunities to suit their learning needs, which for some may include a part-time dual placement in other educational settings, using in mainstream schools or nurseries.
