Oyez oyez – join us back in time
Don your best top hat or bonnet* for a jolly evening of ye olde merrymaking and fundraising in aid of CPotential on Wednesday 27 February 2019.
Master John Martin (our ex-Chair of Trustees) invites you to take part in the Swearing on the Horns, an ancient and unusual Highgate tradition.
For a very modest ‘initiation fee’ (donation), you can partake in the ceremony, which involves making an historic – not altogether binding – oath on the Horns. This then entitles you to various quaint privileges and a wonderful certificate showing you are now a ‘Freeman of Highgate’.
John says: “I won’t reveal more now – other than you won’t have seen anything like it, it’s great fun and all for a fantastic cause.”
The ceremony will start at 8pm.
There’ll also be a raffle and other Victorian-themed frolics all in the warm historic ambience of The Wrestlers Pub, 98 North Road, London N6 4AA.
No need to book. Victorian fancy dress optional but welcome!
How to get there: Simply come along by horse, foot or new-fangled transportation. There’s free on-street parking available, nearest tube is Highgate Tube; bus routes 214, 271 and 143.
