What is conductive education?
Conductive Education is a holistic, practical approach to supporting people with movement disorders. It focuses on building skills and confidence by combining education, play, and therapy to help children learn and grow as independently as possible.
What are the benefits of conductive education?
Conductive Education encourages children to develop physical strength, mobility, and coordination. Just as importantly, it boosts their confidence, communication skills, and social interaction — all while making learning fun and meaningful.
Who are Conductive Education sessions for?
Our sessions are designed for babies, children, and young people aged 0 to 18 with a primary movement disorder or a diagnosis of:
- Cerebral Palsy (CP)
- Down’s syndrome
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
- Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
However, if you’re unsure about your child’s condition or development, please get in touch – we’re here to help and can guide you through the various options available to you.
How can Conductive Education sessions help my child?
Through Conductive Education, children strengthen their mobility and problem solving skills, helping them navigate everyday activities with greater independence.
They also develop communication skills to express their feelings and needs more clearly. Group sessions offer the chance to build friendships, practice social skills like sharing and taking turns, and most importantly – have fun while boosting self-esteem.
What happens in the Conductive Education sessions?
A standard single session usually lasts about 45 minutes, but this can vary. Depending on the participant’s age, stage, and the setting, we may recommend either a single or double session.
A typical session may include:
- Movement activities in lying, sitting, standing, and walking
- Communication and social skills development
- Learning through structured play and fun games
- Participation in meaningful, everyday activities
- Sensory input to support touch, sight, and awareness
Should parents attend?
Yes. We do encourage parents to take an active part in the sessions working alongside their children. In this way, you can learn simple techniques to support your child in daily family life. Many parents also find the group setting a good way to meet other parents to share experiences and ideas.
Can conductive education help with cerebral palsy?
Yes, absolutely. Conductive Education is especially effective for children with cerebral palsy, helping them build practical skills, strength, and independence at their own pace.
How much is conductive education therapy?
An initial assessment costs £45, where our therapists will gently assess your child’s needs and determine whether conductive education is the right fit. If ongoing support is recommended, the cost of conductive education sessions may vary depending on the length and complexity of the therapy provided.
We believe in being open and transparent, so before any sessions begin, we’ll make sure you have all the information you need about pricing and what to expect.
We also understand that funding can sometimes feel overwhelming. If you’re unsure about the costs or how to access financial support, our team is here to help. We’ll guide you through the available options and do our best to make conductive education accessible for your family.
Every small step forward matters – and with the right support, those steps lead to a brighter future. If you’d like to find out more about how Conductive Education Therapy could help your child, we’d love to hear from you.
